As artificial intelligence becomes capable of performing increasingly complex cognitive work, education faces a challenge that conventional reskilling policies may not be equipped to address.
Much of today's education and workforce policy assumes that technological disruption creates temporary skills mismatches that can be resolved through retraining. But what happens when AI systems continue to acquire new professional capabilities faster than workers can be retrained?
This session examines the limits of conventional retraining in an age of superhuman AI performance. It explores the distinction between AI-assisted productivity and genuine human competence, and considers how education must evolve to cultivate independent judgment, domain knowledge, critical reasoning, and the ability to evaluate intelligent systems.
The central question is no longer simply what new skills workers should acquire, but how educational institutions can prepare people to remain professionally capable, adaptable, and responsible when increasingly sophisticated cognitive work can be performed by machines.
